This 8th and final installment of the Clear Your Weight Loss Blocks series is more on the power of mindset.
Imagine you’re already where you want to be. How does it look, feel, and sound?
Visualization is a performance training technique top athletes use to imagine themselves achieving their desired state — whether it’s reaching the finish line, or scoring a goal. It’s also a common technique some notable successful people talk about employing in their daily lives.
Visualization is taking what we commonly call “hoping for the best” to a next level of sophistication.
Visualization allows you to eliminate any thoughts or emotions that distract you from reaching your goal or that hinder your progress. It releases any beliefs that you no longer benefit from identifying with.
It mentally prepares you to reach your goals with greater clarity and confidence through aligning your belief system and identity with your actions.
Visualization and your identity
Consider the analogy that you can’t have what you don’t own. If you don’t own your body — in other words, identify with your body in a positive and loving state — you won’t be able to change it (if this happens to be your goal). For example, in weight loss terms, you can’t lose what you don’t own. So you’ve gotta embrace your body and own it first before you can achieve a desired change.
Similarly, you can’t lose a dollar if you didn’t own that dollar to begin with. You get the idea.
Visualization and your belief system
Visualization allows you to let go of limiting beliefs, especially those that tell you you don’t deserve to have something or to experience a certain outcome.
If you’re holding in any doubts, wavering faith, fears, or even indecisiveness about what it is you want to achieve, your reality will reflect this confusion. This all goes on inside your belief system.
For many people who want to improve their body or health, they hold the subconscious limiting belief that they don’t deserve to be fit or to be in better health — that the state they’re in now is how things should be for them. Letting go of this kind of self-sabotaging victimhood energy helps you move toward your goals without resistance, doubt, or hesitation.
When you imagine you’ve already achieved your goal, you can let go of the more desperate, intense energy that you once tied to a desired outcome, and instead focus your energy on being in the peaceful and joyful state of being where you want to be.
You would have to imagine as if for a moment time does not exist (for the more mathematically or scientifically minded readers, factor out time from the equation to the outcome); then imagine that the things you desire are already yours, even if you haven’t grabbed a hold of them quite yet. It’s not an easy concept to grasp but once you do, it’ll make sense.
Visualization allows you to release a fearful mindset and focus on the positive.
Visualization puts you in the energy of knowing that these outcomes are yours to have and enjoy, and everything will work out without need for fear or worry. It allows your mind to accept the outcome as a possibility and imminently yours.
